Happy birthday, James and Kate!

7.13.2004

I'm sitting in my university's computer lab, inhaling the wonderful smell of cleaner and old books; the fluorescent lights are achingly bright; my hands feel smushed together on this unergonomically-correct keyboard, and someone keeps not answering the phone; I'm loving every second of being here. I feel more mellow; I feel like I'm home again. In the past two years, I've spent more time on this campus than at home with my family, and there's something about this place that always has a relaxing effect on me.

I'm going to be more involved in the Campus Crusade meetings here on campus this fall; last semester, there were choir rehearsals during the meeting times, and so I did the choir thing instead...A) because I wanted to and B) I knew my music professor would never let me hear the end of it if I wasn't involved in the extra choir meetings. :P But I need to get my priorities in order...music is important, but I think it's more important to fellowship with other Christians...there aren't that many here on campus, and it's so easy to get dragged down.

I think I'm going to hop over to Subway before I go home...mmm.

Look at my updating streak and gasp in awe.

Do any of you know people who, upon your seeing them, make your day immediately brighter and cheerier and full of pep and smiles? My friend Jake said I'm that person for him; that I light up his day whenever he sees me -- that's one of the most wonderful things anyone has ever said to me. Today I saw my sorta-pal (I don't know him that well [I accompanied him on piano when he sang for a music class this spring], but hope to remedy that situation by the end of the next semester) Luke who always jazzes up my day whenever I see him.

I got to church early this morning, alone because I took Holly back to her house first (I went to town and kidnapped her last night, brought her back to my house, and we were mad at certain boys for a few hours, and then slept really soundly). We've gone to this church for six years, off and on...off for the past year. We just started going regularly again, and last Sunday, I thought I saw Luke leave the church a little before noon. The service was still going, so I couldn't go out and track the guy down to see if it really was him; by the time the service was over, he was nowhere to be found. I thought it might not've been him anyway, but I got there this morning, and just after I wondered if Luke was going to be there, he walked through the door, came right towards me, and gave me a great big hug. :D We talked for a bit, and ever since then, I've been all happy. I don't know why...he just makes me smile.

I just got home from Spiderman2. I loved it, and it makes me want to go make out with a cute nerd. Tobey Maguire was awesome (and I still hate MJ's guts).

Cooking is fun!

Mom's in Montana, my younger brother is at a 4-day Christian rock gathering type thing, and my Dad's been working a lot lately, so my youngest brother and I are home all day by ourselves (and the two dogs and three cats and numerous things that go "bump" in the, um, day). I thought we should do something special, so today I called up to the movie theatre to check up on movie times. That was at 10, and we'd have to leave for the theatre at 12; I figured that'd give me enough time to do a load of clothes (In Desperate Need of Clean Jeans and Shirts since I've been monkeying around in the kitchen so much lately and neglecting my laundry). I put them in the washer, cleaned up the kitchen, and put the clothes in the dryer as soon as they were finished...but by the time we had to leave, the shirt(in navy) (Old Navy: the secret to my success) I wanted to wear was still wet around the armpits and collar. I drove to the theatre with the shirt on the dash of the van, fluffing and flipping it every so often so that the wet parts were evenly exposed to the sunlight. :P

Harry Potter&PoA wasn't as bad this time, just because I saw it a month ago and knew how it was going to be, and didn't get quite as annoyed at it this time. The third book has always been my favourite, and I thought they skipped some pretty important/very important/important to me (hello!? no Oliver Wood this time!? what were they thinking!?!) stuff, and there were at least a couple biiiig bloopers (placement of Harry's scar got switched around for a few shots -- oops). I tried to think of the movie separately from the book, and enjoyed it more that way -- because in comparison to the book, the movie is seriously lacking.

Anyway. We had a quick lunch uptown after the movie let out at 3, and when we got home around 4, I fed the dogs and made potato salad (from scratch! :P and tried to remember what Mom puts in it, because I couldn't find a good recipe). By the time Dad got home, there was steamed asparagus, a delicious (if I do say so myself) potato salad, and grilled (hurray for summer and charcoal grills!) hamburgers and hotdogs. Raawr.

And tonight was Schwans man night, and he smelled really good. Really really good. And I almost told him so, but then I chickened out, because I thought it might make him feel weird if I said something about it (the "something" would be, "Hey, you smell really good!" Those of you who are guys, would it make you feel weird if a woman came up to you and said that?).

Today I got online and showed my youngest brother pictures of various famous buildings/places from around the world, because last night while we were watching While You Were Sleeping (I love that movie!) he wondered how Dad and I could tell it was filmed in Chicago, since "All buildings in cities look exactly the same!"

:O

I showed him the Chrysler building, the Sears Tower, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Flatiron building, the Taj Mahal, the famous and very photogenic stairs/lamp-posts in Paris, and the Eiffel Tower, proving to him that not all structures are created equal.

The first sentence of the biography of Tommy Lee Jones on imdb.com: "Dark, pockmarked, but handsome in a sinister way, Jones attended Harvard University (where his roommate was future Vice President Al Gore), studying English Literature, and graduating cum laude." (emphasis my own because it cracked me up.)
